Cooking Tip: Finding The Wormy Date

Though I'm sure it wouldn't hurt me, I just can't stomach a wormy date.  It's probably from all those wormy dates I had in the Peace Corps living in a date palm oasis for two years.  I became an expert at checking for the little squirmers.  Of course the ones you find will be long time dead by the time you get them.  Perhaps they'll add a little protein to your diet, but if you, too, can't stomach it, look for the poop.  It looks like little granules of sand or brown salt.  If you see the poop, chances are the little bugger's in there somewhere.
